The root of romaza has no established medical purposes. However, it contains chemicals called antroquinonas (which are also on the most famous herbal laxative, sen), 2 which stimulates the bowel movement. For this reason, occasionally includes romaza in mixtures of herbal laxatives.
Like many other plants, the romaza contains a significant amount of tannins. These have astringent properties that may offer a benefit to treat minor injuries on the skin and hemorrhoids. Sometimes it is also recommended for the romaza lung and nasal congestion.
