Alfalfa is native to the Middle East and now grown in temperate regions worldwide. It is a fodder plant of the family Leguminosae. Its flowers are blue and legume fruit is a small snail-shaped wound. It uses the aerial parts of the plant. Alfalfa is rich in minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron and potassium and vitamins such as C, K, D, E and carotene. It also contains saponosides, tannins, and isoflavones.
