Ubiquinol is the active reduced form of Co-enzyme Q10 (ubiquinone), and as such is critical to the production cycle of cellular energy (ATP-adenosine triphosphate). Ubiquinol is a fat-soluble enzyme that works in unison with mitochondria (in cells) for production of energy through its antioxidant action. Free radicals (unstable molecules) can be stabilized when the ubiquinol donates an electron. This process converts ubiquinol to ubiquinone. Without the presence of both inside cells, cellular energy can not be generated or sustained.
The only way to increase levels of ubiquinol in the body was, until recently, converting it from the Co-enzyme Q10, which, according to research, it became increasingly difficult with age. Scientists have taken more than a decade to produce ubiquinol for use in supplement.
